Event description

Description

In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day on Sunday, September 10, the Canadian Mental Health Association Mid Island is offering safeTALK, a half-day training workshop in suicide alertness, for the reduced rate of $10 per person. More than 50,000 people in 20 countries attend safeTALK each year and learn to:

-Identify people who may have thoughts of suicide

-Ask them directly about the possibility of suicide

-Connect them to life-saving community supports and resources

Professionals and members of the public can benefit from safeTALK, which is one of two levels of training offered through the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Community Gatekeeper training program. Community Gatekeepers are in the unique position of being able to help prevent suicide and help save the lives of people in their community.

PLEASE NOTE:

Talking about suicide can be difficult, especially if you have recently been impacted by a suicide attempt or death. Healing from these tragic events can take months or years, so we encourage you to take time for healing before attending a suicide intervention training.

If you have experienced a suicide death, healing support is available at BC Bereavement Helpline 1-877-779-2223, and www.bcbereavementhelpline.com.

You can also access information and support at: Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, www.suicideprevention.ca/grieving/suicide-grief/.
