Event description
safeTALK - Suicide Alertness Training

About this Event

In honour of World Suicide Prevention Day, we are offering a safeTALK session supported by CMHA Vancouver-Fraser Branch, in partnership with Valley View Funeral Home & Cemetary.

safeTALK is an evidence-based Suicide Alertness Training, where you will gain practical knowledge of how to identify someone at risk and link them to life-saving resources.

safeTALK is a half-day training that features:

• Presentations and guidance from a LivingWorks registered trainer

• Access to support from a local community resource person

• Powerful audiovisual learning aids

• The simple yet effective TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe

• Hands-on skills practice and development

This training is half-day long, and will be offered on the following date;

Date: September 10, 2019

Time: 9 am - 1 pm

Location: Valley View Funeral Home & Cemetery 14660 72nd Avenue, Surrey BC CA, V3S 2E7

Age: This training is intended for adult participants. You must be 16 and older to register for this training.

Fees:

• Individual Registration: $50.00

• Subsidized Registration: $ 35.00 (Students, Seniors, First Nations Groups, Employees of Non-profit organizations)

• CMHA Employees & Registered Volunteers: Fees waived (Contact Us for registration instructions.)

Important: Minimum 5 day notice is required for cancelling the registration for a full refund. No refund will be issued if you cancel within 5 days.

Please note that this training requires minimum of 10 participants and maximum of 30 participants per session. CMHAVF reserves right to cancel the session if the minimum number participant is not met. In the event when the session is cancelled by CMHAVF, a full refund will be issued.

Talking about suicide can be difficult, however, more so if you have recently been impacted by a suicide attempt or death. We encourage you to take significant time for healing before attending a suicide intervention training. For some this may be a number of months, and for others this could be a year or more. Only you know.

You will be provided with a handbook for this session. Please bring a pen for you to take some notes. Please also dress comfortably for the training. Snacks will be provided.

Please refrain from wearing perfume or any other scented products when you come to the training so those who may be sensitive to fragrances can also attend the training.

Please arrive by 8:45 am pm as the training will begin at on-time at 9 am.

Kind regards,

CMHA Vancouver - Fraser Branch Education Team
