Event Details

This course will provide attendees with an overview of wellbore thermal-hydraulics (i.e. coupled thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow). Additionally, they will gain a greater understanding of technologies and analytical methods currently for SAGD thermal-hydraulic applications.

The objective of this course is to:

  • Provide an overview of the physics and thermodynamics associated with the design and performance of the injection and production wellbores in these applications;
  • Describe completion and production/injection technologies used in the industry and their associated pros and cons, including vacuum insulated tubulars (VIT) and flow control devices;
  • Describe various artificial lift, in-well and remote monitoring methods;
  • Provide an overview of thermal wellbore and coupled wellbore-reservoir simulators; and
  • Provide examples of injection and production completion designs and their predicted performance.

Who Should Attend:

This course has been developed for engineers and other personnel who are looking to gain knowledge and understanding of wellbore thermal-hydraulic design and analysis, with a focus on SAGD recovery applications. This course is suitable for individuals with a variety of backgrounds including asset development, reservoir and geology, drilling and completion, production and exploitation, and facilities and operations personnel.

You Will Learn

At the end of the course, students will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of heat transfer and wellbore flow including the thermodynamic and hydraulic properties of SAGD fluids, and properties of heat transfer and fluid flow;
  • Gain a deeper understanding of fluid flow and heat transfer in wells, and formation-wellbore flow in horizontal wells;
  • Increase their knowledge of completions designs and equipment, and downhole and surface flow control in SAGD injection and production wells;
  • Increase their knowledge of artificial lift and in-fill wells;
  • Understand what factors affect SAGD well design and performance; and
  • Increase their knowledge of downhole and surface monitoring, and control methods.

C-FER reserves the right to cancel the course based on minimum registration requirements. Cancellation notices to registrants would be issued shortly after the early bird deadline and a full refund would be provided.

If you are unable to attend the course you registered for, a replacement can be sent or your registration can be moved forward to a future course. Refunds are only issued should C-FER cancel the course.
