Sally Rooney was born in the west of Ireland in 1991. Winner of the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award in 2017, she is the author of Conversations with Friends and the editor of the Irish literary journal The Stinging Fly.

Her sophomore novel Normal People is a coming-of-age love story set in contemporary Ireland. Normal People was long listed for the Man Booker Prize and won the Costa Novel Award, making her the youngest recipient of the award.

Rooney appears to discuss her award-winning novel Normal People with author Sheila Heti.

Q&A and book signing to follow. Books available for purchase.

Please don't print your tickets! We're trying to reduce paper waste for Salon events, so please don't bother printing your ticket. We'll either either scan your ticket on your smartphone or quickly find your name on our tablets and check you in.

Arrive early, meet people. The talk starts at 7pm, but doors open at 6pm, so come early so you can chat with some of your fellow literature lovers, and make new friends. As with all Salon events, we'll have a full bar with a selection of beers, wine, and liquor, as well as sandwiches and snacks.

A note about tickets: As most Appel Salon events are free, it is our policy to overbook. In case of a full program, your ticket reservation may not guarantee admission. We recommend you arrive early.
