IDEALaw is a bi-annual conference hosted by the Social Activist Law Students’ Association at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law. The conference aims to bring together people and ideas at the intersection of law and social activism. It is rooted in the recognition of the powerful impact the law has, both good and bad, and the responsibility of those studying, practicing, and shaping the law have to the people it affects.
This year’s theme is Law, Social Activism and the Media. We will be exploring how the media, the law, and activist movements all impact and shape each other. Panels and workshops will dive into the role of the media in areas such as environmental racism, sexual violence, and youth justice.
The conference is free to attend. The venue is accessible and gender neutral washrooms are available.
The conference will begin at 9am with breakfast and opening remarks, then break out for a day of panels and workshops concluding with a reception. Lunch is provided.
Three (3) Panels:
Environmental Racism and the Media, with panellists Louise Delisle, Natalie Clifford, and Ingrid Waldron.
Sexual Assault and the Media, with panellists Maggie Rahr, Dr. Ardath Whynacht , Angel Moore , and Jordan Roberts .
