Sanctuary Concert Evening – a Spiritpride event raising awareness and funds for LGBTQ Refugees

Join us for this uplifting, entertaining and inspiring night full of professional singers and musicians performing contemporary music, classic gospel, and inspirational music. Follow the journey of the LGBTQ community in its quest for inclusion and welcome, and the journey of the LGBTQ Refugee seeking safety and a new home through music, song, and story.

Multiple performers including award winning comtemporary artist Trey Pearson, renowned gospel artist Bishop Yvette Flunder, and the Universal Gospel Choir under the direction of Lonnie Delisle, will perform. Your MC for the evening is the ever popular Whoopsie.


Trey Pearson

With his Christian band Everyday Sunday, Trey Pearson sold hundreds of thousands of records and amassed millions of streams. He scored 5 #1 U.S. singles and 20 Top 10 hits. Three years ago Trey ‘came out of the closet’. His announcement started a national conversation with a television appearance on The View (nominated for a 2017 GLADD Award), and has been covered by The New York Times, Billboard Magazine, CNN and more, becoming the #1 trending topic worldwide on Facebook. Billboard Magazine did a feature on Trey for his new album, premiered the title track for his debut solo album “Love Is Love”, which is now available worldwide.

Vancouver’s soulful, multi-faith community choir inspiring joy since 1985! Universal Gospel Choir (UGC) is Vancouver’s longest-lived community-based gospel choir. Over 70 voices strong, UGC is inspired by a deep commitment to social justice and a desire to share light and love through the beauty of music.

UGC members are passionate about celebrating the world’s eclectic choral and gospel music while lifting and inspiring the human spirit. Known for their big sound, and exhuberant sense of fun, UGC celebrates all genres of music including traditional gospel, uplifting pop and civil rights anthems along with song from nations around the world!


Bishop Yvette Flunder

Bishop Yvette Flunder

Yvette Flunder is an award winning gospel singer as well as an internationally known speaker and proponent of tradical inclusion. She founded City of Refuge in Oakland, California in 1991 and is the presiding Bishop of the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries. In December of 2014, Bishop Flunder served as the keynote speaker for the White House observation of the 26th Anniversary of World AIDS Day and continues to advocate for the full inclusion and affirmation of all LGBTQ+ people in faith communities.


your mc Whoopsie

Whoopsie

Whoopsie is a lifelong entertainer whose experience ranges from choir and musical theatre, to hosting events on cruise ships from the US, to Mexico, and the Caribbean. While Whoopsie’s credits include acting, singing, producing, and even back-up dancing, her passion has always been the role of Emcee and Event Hostess. From drag shows to Pride, Whoopsie cherishes being “family friendly” and aims to be known as the Ellen DeGeneres of drag.

This concert is part of Spiritpride 2019 - an LGBTQ2+ Spirituality Conference (https://spiritpride.org) Aug 2 - 4, 2019, but is open to the public on a 'by donation' basis - bring a friend, or bring a crowd!

Funds raised from donations will go to supporting LGBTQ refugees recently arrived, and others arriving soon.

Organized by the Spiritpride Committee of St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church, and hosted by Christ Church Cathedral, both LGBTQ2+ affirming and inclusive communities.
