Soybean Tour Speakers:

Dr. Dean Malvick, Professor and Director of Graduate Studies University of Minnesota. Dr. Malvick will be leading the tour scouting infield for diseases. As a Plant Pathologist his work is divided between conducting research and developing extension education programs on the biology and management of crop diseases. Some of his recent work has focused on sudden death syndrome, brown stem rot, and root rots of soybean.

Dr. Dale J. Tomasiewicz, Research Agronomist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (Outlook). Dr. Tomasiewicz will be speaking about soybean moisture requirements and usage, consequences of too much and too little water, irrigation management, and moisture effects on subsequent crops. Most content will be relevant to dryland soybean producers as well as irrigated.

Garry Hnatowich, Research Director, ICDC (Outlook) will discuss results from completed soybean studies involving seeding rates, row spacing, seeding dates, seed treatments and inoculants. He will lead a viewing of 48 soybean varieties, under both dry land and irrigation production systems, and discuss desired plant characteristics. The group will also view on-going N & P soybean fertility trials.
