Event description
Saving seeds can save you money, but also improve your garden. Come find out how to choose which seeds to save, and how to do it.

About this Event

Come to the Doighouse and tour this exciting off grid project. The first half hour of this course will answer your questions about this type of building, and then we will get down to the business of saving seeds.

Come learn which seeds are easiest to save, and which ones take a little more skill and patience. Learn about the biology of the seed, how to choose seeds, the difference between open pollinated, hybrid and gmo seeds, and why it matters. Learn which plants to choose to allow to go to seed, and why every plant that goes to seed doesn't warrant its seeds being saved. Seeds you save yourself are adapted to your particular ecosystem, and you can continually improve the crops you grow by saving seed year after year.

This class will help learn which seeds you can save right away this year, to plan next years garden so that you can start saving seeds, and to help you decide what to keep in your garden to overwinter to collect seeds next summer.
