Want To Try Your Hand At TV and Film Writing?

This 4 Week Workshop will be run by Gatineau's own Jennifer Mulligan, a working screenwriter, emerging director and creative producer! Wowsers, you're getting the best right here!

Here are some of the things we'll cover:

In this 4-Session workshop, a particular topic will be covered at the beginning of the evening, such as:

  • dramatic structure and script elements,

  • writing dynamic action and strong dialogue,

  • developing characters,

  • the importance of rewrites and how to receive notes on your work,

  • how to craft a logline and pitch your idea.

After that, the Jen will lead a discussion about the work that was submitted for review that week. Each participant will be required to provide written pages to ensure that notes received and given remain fair for everyone.

Short writing exercises will also be undertaken in order to develop writing skills, and an overview of other learning and community resources will be provided.

PLUS you have full access to the private Facebook writers group.

What We'll Do

Each week participants will be invited to bring in their own writing projects - shorts or features - and with the help of the instructor and the rest of the class, they will workshop their material in order to improve it.  By the end of the Workshop, the goal is to help each participant produce a new script (or portion of a script), or to improve an already existing written project.

Jen Mulligan, Your Instructor

Jennifer Mulligan is a screenwriter, emerging director, and creative producer from Gatineau, QC. She completed her first short film "death isn't the same anymore" in 2017, as a recipient of the SAW Video Jumpstart Grant, and it received a Festival Director's Award from the Lady Filmmakers Festival in Beverly Hills in September 2017. Jennifer's script Minerva's War was a finalist in the Lady Filmmakers Festival in 2014. It was optioned for production by the festival as part of their Script-to-Screen Initiative.

Jennifer has been screenwriting since 2005, and founded The Writers Room Ottawa, a screenwriting group, in January 2011, to help foster the art, business and craft of screenwriting in Ottawa.

From 2011 until the end of 2014, Jennifer worked for Alex Epstein (Montreal director and screenwriter) as a remote Research Assistant. During the time, she worked on several film crews in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. In 2013, she has the opportunity to work as the assistant to a producer for the feature film from Australia called, Tell The World.

Recently, Jennifer has been hired by several Ottawa producers to write or polish feature film scripts and it collaborating on several projects.
