The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) invites you to its 2017 Annual General Meeting & Panel Discussion on 'Knowing job opportunities in BC - how will you choose your career? on June 2nd, 2017.'


Join us for an evening of Panel discussion followed by an annual review of the activities, election of board members and acceptance of reports on June 2nd, 2017.

This is a great opportunity to connect with the SCWIST community and expand your network of professionals in STEM who are empowering the community in influential ways.

For our panel we have:

Alaine Maxwell: Alaine Maxwell has been in the life sciences industry for 17 years working in sales, marketing and R&D in Canada, the US and Europe. She is currently the Canadian National Sales Manager for the Bioscience Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Prior to this, Alaine was the Americas Marketing Manager for the Primary and Stem Cell business for Life Technologies, Product Manager for Pluripotent Stem Cells at Stem Cell Technologies and the European Technical Sales Specialist for Primary and Stem Cells Division of Life Technologies. She was in sales for several years in the San Francisco Bay area for Invitrogen and Clontech. Alaine completed an MSc Oncology and BSc Neuroscience at the University of Alberta.

Briana Sim: Briana is the co-founder and COO of Radical I/O, a mobile & web app studio and consultancy in Vancouver, BC that develops technology with purpose. Briana’s background is rooted in higher education administration, and brings her wealth of knowledge to the scaling and fostering of the people behind the projects at Radical I/O. She's particularly passionate about ensuring inclusiveness in every area of the company and in championing women in the community to pursue careers in technology.

Manisha Narula: Manisha is an experienced leader and social innovator. She has a passion for education, youth development, community engagement and social change. As the Co-Founder and Program Director of GradusOne, she has been able to translate this passion and build a non-profit that is helping students and recent grads develop their careers and face the question "What's next". With a Business Degree from Simon Fraser University, Manisha has held several roles in the community and has a background in human resources, project management, and marketing. She is driven by her purpose to create projects and communities that make people feel connected and gain confidence through diverse and fun learning experiences.

Bethany Edmunds: Dr. Bethany Edmunds is a versatile educator with extensive experience and success in design and development of software technologies and programs. Bethany is Associate Dean of Computing at BCIT, and the Technical Director of Leffler Software Services. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science with a specialization in Machine Learning from Rutgers University.

Light refreshment and appetizers will be served. A cash bar will be available with options to purchase wine.

Please note that this event is free for members in good standing. The registration fee for non-members is $20. Email resourcecentre@scwist.ca about the status of your membership, or renew your membership here.

For those who become members at the event, the cost of the ticket will be applied towards the SCWIST membership fee.
