Event description

Description

UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County is collaborating with the Loggerhead Marine Life Center to bring the Responsible Pier Initiative (RPI) program to Hernando County. Since the launch of the RPI in 2013, the program has aided in the rescue of over 300 sea turtles and the removal of over 4,000 pounds of marine debris.

A First Responder workshop for the RPI will be held at the UF/IFAS Extension Office on Thursday (9/21/2017) from 9:30am until 10:30am. The workshop will include information on sea turtle ecology and conservation, First Responder action steps, and rescue demonstrations.

Immediately following the classroom time, participants will have the option to travel to Hernando's coast and assist with the installation of signage and/or monofilament tube. Signage lists the steps to follow in the event a sea turtle is hooked or entangled.

The First Responder workshop is free but space is limited to 20 participants. Please sign up through Eventbrite.
