About this event
The Salt Spring Forum welcomes Sean Holman.
Sean Holman is Associate Professor, Wayne Crookes Professor of Environmental and Climate Journalism at the University of Victoria.
Holman’s research revolves around the use and misuse of information with a particular emphasis on how this affects catastrophic climate change and biodiversity loss. He frequently writes and comments on the decline of democracy, government secrecy, and climate change coverage.
Who better to unlock the secrecy and manipulations surrounding the recent election of David Eby as leader of the BC. NDP, and the dis-qualification of climate activist Anjali Appadurai.
Did she really break the rules? Or were the rules changed to prevent Appadurai becoming leader?
What does this mean for the NDP and BC?
Where does this leave the fight against the Climate Emergency?
These questions lead on to wider discussion about how our political parties operate and are still being directed by party grandees, often resulting in decisions and actions that can be outmoded and out of touch with the public. This is seen very clearly regarding the catastrophically slow progress of policy and action to fight and mitigate the effects of Climate Change.
Before becoming an academic, Holman was an investigative journalist with his bylines appearing in The Globe and Mail, Vancouver Sun and Toronto Star amongst others. He was the founder and publisher of the pioneering news service Public Eye, and host and producer of the syndicated radio show Public Eye Radio.
Out of respect for all attendees we ask that masks are worn at this event.
