Program:

In our final concert of the 2019 season, Pontiac Enchanté celebrates its tenth anniversary by featuring three artists who have all performed in previous concert seasons. The program they will perform also celebrates the merging of past and present: in particular, Brahms’s first piano trio was written in 1854, when the composer was twenty, but was then substantially revised in 1889, in the last decade of Brahms’s life. As such, it features a unique fusion of youthful energy and mature reflection. Ernest Bloch’s Nocturnes were written in 1924, and while they pay tribute to some of the modernist sounds of the early post-war period, their style is largely reflective of the romantic idioms of the nineteenth century. Schumann’s final piano trio, in G minor, was written in 1851. Like Brahms’s B major trio, it is symphonic in scale, and was described by Clara Schumann as ‘passionate, especially the scherzo, which carries one along with it into the wildest depths’. After the concert, please join us in the hall for a wine and cheese reception to celebrate the end of the 2019 season, and our tenth anniversary

Robert Schumann (1810-1856):
Piano Trio no. 3 in G minor, op. 110

Ernest Bloch (1880-1959):
Three Nocturnes for Piano Trio

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897):
Piano Trio no. 1 in B major, op. 8
