Event description

Description

Come out on January 27, 2018 for this years first edition of Second Beat!

We are hoping to focus on storytelling, dialogue, and social justice this month. So we will be kicking the evening off with a short documentary, The Largest Deposit, followed by an open dialogue. Following the documentary and dialogue we will open the floor to open mic performances. Please REGISTER if you would like to perform as we have limited time slots.

The documentary is an exploration of the impact that the Alberta tar sands have on the communities that live in the areas where the processing plants are located. In particular it explores the impact on the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nations.

Please feel free to view the trailer as well as a short bio from one of the film makers at the following web addresses:

This event is for young people age 19+ and the 'open mic' performances can range from singing, playing an instrument, spoken word, reading poetry, dancing, magic, comedy or a combination of any or all of these things. The list doesn't stop there so please if you have any talent or performance that you would like to share let us know.

As well we have $25 honorariums for the first 5 new performers who pre-register for the event. And if you're a group of 3+ we can offer a $50 honorarium per group.

So, if you're interested shoot us a message on our Second Beat Facebook page (@secondbeatmpnh) to register or contact us at secondbeat@mpnh.org!
