Descriptive Itinerary

With a local guide as lead detective, join a small group of strollers and investigate the little-known stories of the sturdy sailors and entrepreneurs who built Twillingate.

This one-hour walking tour begins at Hart’s Cove Cemetery – one of the earliest in Twillingate – and continues at a leisurely pace around the south side of Twillingate Harbour.

With rugged cliffs and pristine ocean only steps away, you’ll discover the Gothic Revival architecture of Ephraim Jacobs House and the fascinating tales of the seafaring Captain who later lived there.

As you meander through the quaint cove, the gentle movement of the ocean will surely roll your stress away. An easy stroll to the top of Froude’s Hill will bring you to a lookout with gorgeous panoramic views of Twillingate’s north and south islands with the deep blue ocean nestled in between.

Step inside the historic Twillingate Performing Arts Centre, built in 1868, and marvel at the hard-carved woodwork. Listen to your guide perform the provincial anthem of Newfoundland & Labrador on the Bevington Pipe Organ – one of only 8 remaining worldwide!

Discover the methods used by settlers to power the pipe organ without electricity. Your inner poet will come alive as you learn the lyrics of Newfoundland & Labrador’s provincial anthem and the early controversy that surrounded the musical score.

The tour continues down the coastline where your expert local guide will regale you with the tragedies and triumphs of Twillingate’s early fishing economy.

The Ashbourne house, shop, and office – all registered heritage structures – offer a visual experience of both past and present. The Longhouse is one of the oldest surviving residences in the province built in Georgian style.

When the secrets have been revealed, your stroll will conclude at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean near a bistro, convenience store, and boat tours. Throughout the tour, your guide will illustrate secrets and stories with historic photographs drawing the comparison between Twillingate then – and now!
