Backyard Seed Saving

For something so small, the implications are so huge! Seeds are at the heart of gardening, yet we often don't think about the art and science of saving seed. In this workshop, we will collectively explore the importance of seedsaving, and how we can each start saving our own seed. The workshop will have a strong practical focus, actively engaging everyone in discussion. Whether you have been gardening for many years, or hope that this season will be your first, all are welcome!

Join this workshop to learn the fundamentals of seed saving in your backyard! You will learn:

  • Why saving seeds in your backyard vegetable garden is important
  • The fundamentals of seed breeding and selection
  • The difference between self pollinated and open pollinated varieties
  • How to harvest, clean, dry, and store seeds of common varieties (ex peas, beans, tomatoes, and lettuce)
  • Start a seed saving plan for your vegetable garden
