About this event
The legacies of the H.Y. Louie Family are all around us. The first seeds of their businesses sprouted in Vancouver Chinatown, where Hok Yat Louie had purchased his first building at 255 East Georgia Street by 1908.
This tour will take you back to the era when successful merchants like Yip Sang, Chang Toy, and Hok Yat Louie made their beginnings despite tremendous challenges. You will receive commentary and insights from the exhibition curator on a guided walkthrough of Seeds to Success: Story of the H.Y. Louie Family including significant family artifacts on display inside the historic Hon Hsing building. Following the exhibition, you will walk over to the original location of the H.Y. Louie warehouse and residences along East Georgia Street, with relevant sites pointed out along the way.
This fall edition of tours will feature related stories of Chinese Canadian veterans in honour of Remembrance Day.
Max. of 20 participants per tour. Registration is required.
