Description
The Kensington branch of the Vancouver Public Library and the Cedar Cottage Food Network have joined forces to develop a seed sharing library for the Kensington-Cedar Cottage neighbourhood, opening in spring 2014! All are welcome to participate in a discussion of how we will get it started.
Like bees, seeds are fundamental to food production. By saving and sharing seeds within our community, we are able to better define our own food systems, at the local level. We will know that our seeds are not genetically modified, we become more aware of the plants' growing cycles, and we learn best how to care for our gardens.
This event will feature a seed-saving workshop by the folks from the Cedar Cottage Seed Saving Collective. Following the workshop, we will have an information session about the Kensington-Cedar Cottage Seed Sharing Library. We want your thoughts on how we should operate the library and how you see it playing a role in our local food systems!
The KCC Seed Sharing Library will open in time for the growing season of next year. The library structure itself will be built by the staff and volunteers at the Vancouver Tool Library, and will reside at 1428 Cedar Cottage Mews.
