Seeing Beyond Vision Loss: Setting Students and Teachers Up for Success
Facilitator: Anu Pala, SIETAR BC Board Member
The evolution of media and technology has transformed the way we
communicate, teach, learn, play, and connect to community. Whether it’s
social media, virtual classrooms, or the infamous ‘Cloud,’ the way we access and share information has changed. As a result, teachers have to work hard to develop creative content in order to keep their students engaged. Ensuring that classrooms are inclusive to all students of varying abilities is paramount. While the digital door is open, is it truly accessible to all students? This interactive workshop will discuss the unique challenges of students with vision loss and provide teachers with the necessary tools and resources to set them up for success. By the end of this workshop, participants will:
* Discuss some of the myths and stereotypes linked to people living with vision loss
* Learn about some of the challenges that students face in the physical
and virtual classroom
* Discuss some of the mobile apps that can help students
* Address questions related to supporting students with vision loss.
