BC Teal and SIETAR BC's Self Studies series in Language Instruction and Pedagogy, through an intercultural and Racially Aware Lens!

About this Event

In these Self-Studies monthly sessions, instructors and administrators are invited to join conversations in teaching and learning. The facilitation of these sessions is peer led and have a different monthly focus in keeping with the mission and vision of SIETAR BC and BC TEAL. After 5 very interactive and successful sessions in 2019, we are back with 4 more iterations in the series, covering a wider array of topics you asked for! Presenting to you, self studies Series session 6, 7, 8 and 9.

These sessions are hosted by Vancouver Community College through the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and are free for SIETAR BC Members, BC TEAL Members, and VCC employees. All sessions will be in room A3500 and light refreshments will be provided.

6th Session: January 31, 2020. Gender: led by Shantel Ivits, this session will focus on Gender. We will be exploring: The Gender Unicorn – Trans Student.

7th Session: February 28th, 2020. Anti-Racism Practices in Curriculum Design: This session will be led by Jennifer Cummins. Jennifer is an English as an Additional Language Instructor at Vancouver Community College. This session will be led by Jennifer Cummins. This session will look at anti-racist practices in four different areas of curriculum: goals, content, learning experience, and assessment.

8th Session: March 27th, 2020. Who Sets The Agenda In Intercultural Education?. This session will be led by Tanya Cowie.

9th Session: May 29th, 2020. Hearing Privilege and the Ownership of Sound.This session will be co-led by Brenda Carmichael and Maria Klassen.
