Description

The presentation is one hour, followed by a question and answer period, and will provide information from OSPE’s continuing professional development advocacy studies, including:

  • Fundamental goal of CPD programs
  • Stand-alone CPD versus CPD within an engineering QA program
  • A summary of engineering CPD programs in various provinces
  • The criticisms of CPD programs
  • Minimizing unnecessary reporting paperwork
  • Incorporating more flexibility to accommodate work demands
  • Recognizing changing CPD needs as engineers become more experienced
  • Opting in and out of CPD requirements as job requirements change
  • Summary of OSPE's recommended CPD practices for Ontario

Presenters: Paul Acchione, P.Eng.

Paul has B.A.Sc. and M. Eng. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Paul is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario and is a member of OSPE, CAE, ASME, ANS, IEEE, and ISA. Paul has over 43 years of engineering and management experience in the nuclear and fossil power generation industry. He worked with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and its predecessor companies in their fossil and nuclear engineering divisions from 1971 to 2002. He currently does consulting work through Market Intelligence and Data Analysis Corporation and Canadian Power Utility Services. He was the 2013-2014 President and Chair of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) and is its 2014-2015 Past Chair. Paul was made a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 2014.
