WORKSHOPS

Workshops are held at 11:10 am, 12:00 pm, and 1:45 pm. Please choose one (1) workshop for each time slot option.

Workshop Presenters

A. Principles of Adult Education

This workshop is available at 11:10 am or 1:45 pm.

What made your best adult learning experience the best? What can you do to enhance your students' experiences? Find out what appeals to adult learners and what turns them off! Gain an understanding of the characteristics and expectations of adult learners and how these principles apply in an online learning environment.

B. The Learning Cycle: Path to Effective Learning

This workshop is available at 12:00 pm only.

What are the stages of the learning cycle? Why are they important and how can we ensure students are moving through the cycle? Effective learning requires more than consuming and repeating large amounts of material. Learning is most effective where participants have the opportunity to engage in a process that encourages them to integrate theory with action and to apply new learning to their experience. This session will provide a model for facilitators to help maximize the learning in their courses.

C. Tips and Tricks for Succeeding (and Surviving) Teaching Online

This workshop is available at 11:10 am or 1:45 pm.

What communications strategies and techniques are best online? What is a Community of Inquiry and how can you build one? Come to achieve your goal of fostering student engagement, encouraging participation and, ultimately, robust discourse.

D. The Learning Portal

This workshop is available at 11:10 am or 12 pm.

What kinds of library resources and supports are available to your online students? Where can students access tutorials about study skills, research, writing, digital literacy and much more? How can you use these components in your course? Come to discover The Learning Portal online!

E. Supporting Students with Accommodations

This workshop is available at 11:10 am or 12 pm.

When you receive an accommodation letter, do you have more questions than answers? Come to this session and experience through fun, hands-on activities how different disabilities/diagnoses can impact learning. Gain perspective on how technology and strategies can support students. Understand how students with accommodations can still be able to master your course!

F. Blackboard Demystified

This workshop is available at 12:00 pm or 1:45 pm.

What Blackboard functions or settings could make your job easier? Which tools can you use to reduce workload or enhance the experience? Come to get an expert's review of Blackboard tips and tricks and to have your most pressing Blackboard questions answered.
