Helping seniors avoid fraud
Hey baby boomers! Guess what? More than a quarter of us are now seniors! For the generation that came of age in the 1960s, that is truly a scary thought. But here is a scarier thought. Far, far too many early baby boomers and seniors are babes in the woods when it comes to protecting ourselves from fraud, scams, gouging and a host of other predatory practices of the 21st century for which today’s seniors are seen as ‘easy meat.’
If you live in western Mississauga, specifically in the neighbourhoods of Lisgar, Meadowvale and Streetsville, then let’s do something about that!
On the first day of spring, Tuesday March 21, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the brand new Meadowvale Community Centre, I will hold the latest in my rotating round of seniors’ fraud prevention awareness sessions.
- Consumer rights;
- Door-to-door sales;
- Fraud prevention;
- Identity theft, and having valid identity documents;
- Shopping tips;
- Signing a contract.
Join me, and staff from the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services for an informative session, with lots of time for questions and answers.
While this is a free community event, you do have to register! This is to ensure that we don’t exceed the capacity of our room with a session that is always popular.
Also popular are the light refreshments we serve at the event.
