Sewing Machine Basics (Introductory Level)
Date: January 24 - February 14, 2018 (Wednesday, 4 weeks)
Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Instructor: Tamsin Sloots
Fee: $65 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $75 plus HST (Non Members)

Start at the beginning and learn the basics of machine sewing. This class will introduce students to ins and outs of a working on a sewing machine. We will learn how to thread the sewing machines, wind bobbins, sew straight, curved and enclosed seams and hems.

Students will leave the class feeling comfortable working a sewing machine and with a sample book of stiches, seams and hems to use as examples in future sewing, and a small finished product, such as a pouch or fabric bucket.

Tamsin Sloots is a maker of prints and textile objects originally hailing from Hamilton, Ontario. She has a diploma in textiles from Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario and a BFA Interdisciplinary from NSCAD University in Textiles and Printmaking. Tamsin is currently working out of the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design as an artist in residence for 2017-2018 where you can likely find her quilting up a storm or elbow deep in a vat of indigo. She thoroughly enjoys spreading her love of craft to people and experiencing the community and practicality found through making and creating.
