Discover what’s possible when university students and communities work together to make positive local change!
Join us for an inspirational night, where SFU students will present ideas to win funding for the implementation of their innovative projects for community impact. Then, participate in a community dialogue designed to explore the indigenization of your own activities, projects and work.

PRESENTING PROJECTS:
Connecting Circle: Weekend Workshop Series – A one-day workshop that will connect new students in the field of Communication, Art and Technology with local representatives of businesses and organizations in Surrey to receive support and mentorship to do freelance design projects.
Masculinity Conversations – Community dialogues around the theme of healthy masculine identity, creating safe spaces where positive masculinity is discussed, understood and promoted.
Surrey Faces – A photo installation project honouring the interconnectivity of individuals and their environments.
Start Up Homes – A student-run program striving to instil financial literacy and employability skills in immigrant, refugee and Muslim women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Surrey Centre Mini-Maker Faire – An all-day workshop engaging educators and community in learning about maker pedagogy as a catalyst for supporting the engagement of design thinking and experiential activity as powerful learning tools.
COMMUNITY DIALOGUE:
Indigenizing your work: exploring ideas for embedding and honouring Indigenous practices in your organization, activities, or projects.
A public dialogue for all attendees, this hour will provide space to reflect, learn, and share ideas for exploring ways to Indigenize community work of all kinds.
Courageously explore what Indigenization might mean for your own work, whatever that might be.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
SFU Surrey campus sits right beside Surrey Central SkyTrain station and bus loop. For those who will be driving, pay parking is available in lots surrounding the area.
