Erin McKenna has been rug hooking for well over 25 years and comes from a family with a long tradition of knitting, weaving, spinning and hooking rugs. The history of hooking mats is rich in the Maritimes and Erin loves being a part of this tradition. She often designs her own patterns but she also enjoys hooking commercial designs. Presently, Erin sits on the Board of the Hooked Rug Museum of North America in Queensland, Nova Scotia; is a member of the Nova Scotia Rug Hooking Guild, the New Brunswick Mat Registry and she is working towards the McGown rug hooking certification.

Most recently Erin participated in the 200 Cushion Exhibit in Barachois, N.B., she curated the Ganong Chocolate Box Exhibit ( 52 hooked mats) that toured the Garceleon Centre in St. Stephen, Kingbrae Gardens in St. Andrews and the AX Gallery in Sussex. The Ganong Exhibit is now part of the permanent collection of the Hooked Rug Museum of North America. A companion magazine article for Rug Hooking Magazine, under the title "Sweet Nostalgia" was published in the June /July/August 2017 issue in tandem with the exhibit's opening.

In 2014, Erin curated a large rug exhibit celebrating the works of Miss Grace Helen Mowat and her cottage industry known as the Charlotte County Cottage Craft. This Exhibit is also a part of the permanent collection of the Hooked Rug Museum of North America.
