Event description

Description

Sheepskin tanning is coming to Williams Lake!

This natural. at-home or -farm tanning is the alum-taw method, an easy project for beginner tanners.

Each participant works on their own sheepskin provided by the course and takes home a beautiful finished piece of art by the end of the weekend.

We will explore the history of tanning, variable methods, and cultural contexts surrounding the craft.

Sources:
Each hide was ethically sourced, and salvaged from Salt Spring Island.
The alum-taw tanning method is from Eurasia, in the teacher's lineage.
The teacher is Mara Cur, from Crow's Nest Wildcraft rewilding education project.

This event is taking place on T'exelcemc Band of the Secwepemc First Nation. We humbly gather as guests on this land.
