Event description

Description

There is no single cause for mental illness in children.

That's why children's mental health is our cause.

And why we need you.

Mental disorders in children and youth occur in about one-quarter of this age group.

The effects can be devastating.

Families can offer love and understanding but when seeking help, they find themselves navigating a mental health system for which there is no map.

So we are taking action. And asking you to join us.

Michele Sparling, Sue Britton and their colleagues on the Board of Directors of Parents for Children's Mental Health (PCMH), invite you to Shine the Light - a special gathering of leaders, innovators, and disruptors like yourself who are willing to share your ideas and social capital via networking to help to raise awareness and funds to help the families of children and youth with mental illnesses.

Hearing the truth will make you feel the need.

As part of the evening a few brave youth will share their stories, what it is like for their families, and even their hopes and ideas for how employers can better support them.

Other important speakers:

  • Dr. Rani Srivastiva - Chief of Nursing & Professional Practice at CAMH and Assistant Professor at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto, Adjunct Professor at York University School of Nursing and Dalhousie University

  • Dr. Kristin Cleverly - Senior-Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the CAMH Chair in Mental Health Nursing Research, Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto.

  • Asante Haughton - CAMH 150 Difference Maker recipient, poet, speaker, facilitator, advocate, front-line worker, and researcher

  • 4th - TBA
