Andrea Sharpe - Siblings of ASD

ASN is pleased to invite Andrea Sharpe to present "Siblings of ASD" at PAFN, Richmond, October 22, and welcome to join!

Andrea Sharpe, a Behaviour Consultant and an Associate at the ABLE Developmental Clinic, will be presenting on strategies for supporting siblings with brothers and sisters with autism spectrum disorder.

In this presentation, Andrea will discuss:

• The research findings on the needs of siblings of brothers and sisters with autism

• How we might know that siblings require additional support

• Strategies for supporting siblings

• The Sibshop model

Bio: Andrea Sharpe is a Behaviour Consultant with over 20 years experience working with people with developmental disabilities and their families. She completed her Masters in Health Psychology at the University of Southampton in England. She worked as an intern in programs providing Applied Behaviour Analysis both in the UK and in California, before returning to Vancouver in 2001. Since then, she has worked as a Consultant in BC, Alberta, and Yukon. Andrea is particularly interested in supporting children who struggle with anxiety and social skills, and provides this support through a combination of individual, group and consulting work. In addition, Andrea has completed training in the Sibshops model, and offers supports for siblings of people with special needs. Andrea has recently returned to UBC and is completing her Masters in Education in Counselling Psychology.
