Description

Join us for the latest installment of the Sidewalk Toronto Public Talks series.

What's the future of affordable housing?

The need to create housing that is more affordable to more people is the greatest challenge facing growing cities like Toronto. For urban neighbourhoods to remain vibrant and diverse, local governments and developers must provide housing opportunities for residents of all ages, abilities, lifestyles, and incomes. Getting there requires innovative approaches to housing policy, financing models, and community partnerships.

In our second public talk, author and community organizer Jane Farrow will moderate a conversation with three urban experts who are challenging cities to think differently about how to create housing that's more affordable and inclusive.

Stephanie Allen, Cherise Burda, Rafael Cestero

Stephanie Allen - Vice President - Project Planning and Partnerships, Catalyst Community Developments Society
Cherise Burda - Executive Director, Ryerson City Building Institute
Rafael Cestero - President and CEO, Community Preservation Corporation; former Commissioner, NYC Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development

These speakers will explore questions such as:

  • How do we ensure new housing development protects existing residents?
  • How can cities support social housing given constraints to public funding?
  • What programs or initiatives around the world offer inclusive models for cities to study?

Please reserve your free ticket today. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Seating is limited and unclaimed seats may be made available to a rush line shortly before the event begins.

Livestream: You can also follow the event online via the Sidewalk Toronto YouTube and Facebook pages.

Sidewalk Toronto Public Talks will feature acclaimed speakers discussing ways that cities around the world are preparing for the future and addressing challenges related to sustainability, mobility, housing, and inclusive urban design. These talks will not focus specifically on the Sidewalk Toronto project.
