About this event

Fire codes, fastener concerns along with energy efficient, airtight buildings mean alternate methods of moisture management are needed, particularly with certain types of assemblies. Join the Alberta New Home Warranty Group (ANHWP Group) and the Professional Home Builders Institute (PHBI) as they welcome back Darrell Paul from Qualistat Building Performance Consultants as he gives some insight into stone and veneer cladding.

Topics to be discussed:

• Penetrations and flashings

• Fastening and drainage planes

• Product limitation and risks

• Side yards, fire protection and codes

• Cladding assemblies and their risk/liability

About the speaker

Darrell Paul has been involved in wood frame construction for the past 42 years. During his first 20 years he worked as a framing carpenter, then moved into site supervision where he also completed his PHBI master builder and master renovator designations.

In the late 1990’s he got involved with building science providing technical support for DELTA MS foundations wraps and then in the Moisture Control Technician course through SAIT, which he taught for 14 years. In 2019 his company Qualistat merged with a mechanical engineering company, where today they have offices in Calgary and Edmonton and provide energy code compliance for NECB and 9.36 as well as building envelope and mechanical engineering designs and diagnostic assessments. Darrell is a published author and recently, the book “Building Envelope Tie-In Details” written for the siding association of Alberta was just released.
