Signature Speakers: Screen Time - Should We Leave Kids to Their Own Devices
Event Information
About this Event
Parents, caregivers and teachers are constantly challenged with the dilemma of screen time for our children. How much is too much? If we restrict it, will they miss out? It’s everywhere, how do we control it? In this presentation, Dr. Michelle Ponti will discuss evidence-based risks and potential benefits of digital use for children and adolescents, provide key recommendations on screen use and offer ideas on health use of digital media in our daily lives.
Dr. Ponti is a pediatrician in London, Ont., working at the Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI) a children's mental/developmental health facility. Her practice focuses on paediatric consultation about child development, dual diagnosis and neurodevelopmental disorders including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Dr. Ponti was the Chair of the Digital Health Task Force for the Canadian Paediatric Society. She worked with this Task Force on the updated recommendations on screen time in young children 0-5 years and more recently examined the health effects of screen media use in school-age children and adolescents.
