SILO the film Screening & Grain Handling Safety Community Discussion
Event Information
About this Event
Inspired by true events, SILO follows a harrowing day in an American farm town. Disaster strikes when teenager Cody Rose is entrapped in a 50-foot-tall grain bin. When the corn turns to quicksand, family, neighbors and first-responders must put aside their differences to rescue Cody from drowning in the crop that has sustained their community for generations.
Join us for a special digital community screening of SILO, the first ever feature film about a grain entrapment. SILO isn’t available online, or on DVD, and this event is one-of-a-kind.
Who should attend? Everyone who handles grain or may be involved at an entrapment incident: farmers, workers, family members, truckers, grain handlers & elevators, custom operators, suppliers, emergency services/first-responders, government and organization leaders, farm community members, etc. (Note, due to the nature of the content, discretion should be used for children under 10.)
You can watch the SILO trailer here.
The City of Kawartha Lakes is bringing this film - FREE OF CHARGE - to our community in hopes of shedding light on the dangers of grain handling and preventing future accidents.
American AG Network says “The film speaks directly to our core audience and does a great job at raising awareness of this very real and very dangerous threat posed to farmers.”
World-Grain says, “Throughout the farming community it’s often hard to talk about grain entrapment because so many people have been hurt or killed... the movie will be something that people can really learn from.”
It’s going to be a great event, and we hope you will join us!
Following the 70 minute screening, there will be a Zoom panel discussion about the film and farm safety, grain handling, fire rescue, multi-generational farming and other themes in the film that are relevant to all of us in and around agriculture in Kawartha Lakes and surrounding communities.
