Description
Led by ROI Institute Canada, this workshop introduces the ROI Methodology and demonstrates how it can be applied to measure the value of Simulation Training in a healthcare setting. To make valid quantifications and qualifications of any quality improvement initiative, program owners and researchers must use a robust, systematic method to credibly “show” value.
We will present the sepsis work at Hamilton Health Sciences as a case study, where a simulation-based intervention on the early recognition and treatment of sepsis has markedly reduced the incidence of severe sepsis and septic shock, which typically require intensive care unit admission. This has reduced mortality and ICU admissions, and yielded a 321% return on investment.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- State the steps of the ROI Methodology to prove the value of their own simulation-based healthcare quality improvements initiatives in a credible and systematic manner
- Calculate the ROI of a program
- Explain a tangible example of simulation's ROI in sepsis
