Event description

Description

This two-day intensive program focuses on the key educational elements and contexts required for the practical creation and running of simulations in healthcare training.

During this course, participants will learn how to obtain and create low-cost equipment and simulation models, cost-effective fidelity boosts, pearls on what works and doesn’t for engaging learners, the basics needed to have your own simulation centre, how to make the maximum use of a simulation centre for educational or research purposes, the difference between technicians, operators, and the Simulation Wizard. Hear and learn from the people who are not only behind the scenes, but actually help create them.

The course takes place between 8am-4pm.

By the end of this course, participants should be familiar with these following topics and essential principles:

Fidelity and Realism:

Apply learning objectives to determine required fidelity of a simulation, as well as learning approaches for the practical development of the simulation environment.

The Basics of a Simulation Centre:

Apply scenario design skills for developing simulation stems and identify elements for the successful ongoing operations of a simulation program.

Project Runway:

Apply cost considerations for the development of a specific simulation, identifying the key elements for role design and scripting of scenarios.

Running Scenarios:

Compare and contrast the pros and cons of various forms of simulation components—from costs to time to ease of use—while considering how to apply these resources for the most effective educational impact, reflection and research.

Brainstorming Projects:

Apply course teachings to own project via the completion of a simulation D&D document.

“In-the-field” Training:

Apply ways of dealing with the unexpected, identifying methods for maintaining reality of a simulation gone awry.

This course is in the process of being accredited.
