About Alyx Essers-Silverman
Art has been part of my life since childhood. I have fond memories of after school crafts with my grandmother, painting classes, photography class, and sculpting. In high school art became an integral part of my identity, so I continued to pursue it in post-secondary education, studying visual arts at Langara College from 2008 - 2010. After spending the next two years working at various jobs to pay the bills, I enrolled at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, where I received my BFA in 2015.
During my time at Kwantlen I took a course in Developmental Psychology out of interest. Around the same time I attended a presentation about Art Therapy, which bridged the gap between my passion for art and my fascination with psychology. It did not take me long to realize that this would be my career path. Art has always been therapy for me and sharing that skill with others is the most fulfilling work I can imagine.
I went on to graduate from Vancouver Art Therapy institute in 2017. For the last 5 years I have been working at an art focused child care center and practicing art therapy privately and in public schools.
About Alexander Greghi:
Alexandre Greghi is a realist artist and an art educator. He is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and now lives and works in Langley, Greater Vancouver, BC, Canada.
His journey towards art happened through advertising. After years of learning, his advertising work lost its focus and was replaced by the work as an artist and art educator. He was a co-founder of Atelier Contraponto, where he taught drawing and painting in São Paulo. He also worked in Fundação Casa, a correction facility for minors, teaching drawing to incarcerated teenagers.
His work is realistic and pictorial. It emphasizes the feeling of reality, not a simple copy of it. It strives for movement and subjectivity, through abstraction and a translation of what is seen. The technique transfers the reality to the support.
The process is distinct from the academic method and is radically diverse from contemporary art.
Since 2006, Alexandre has participated in many exhibits in Canada, Brazil, and internationally.
Now he teaches at the Langley Arts Council and at the Shadbolt Centre of the arts, in Burnaby, both in the Fraser Valley, Canada.
