Event description
Whether you’re just at the idea stage or ready to launch your small business, join us to learn more about how to urban farm in Victoria!

About this Event

In the City of Victoria, you can grow and sell edible and non-edible products including unprocessed fruits and vegetables, flowers, herbs, fibre, seeds, nuts, seedlings, mushrooms, plant cuttings, eggs and honey. Join us and learn all about the City’s regulations that allow small-scale commercial urban food production, and access related resources.

Whether you’re just at the idea stage or are ready to launch an urban farming business, this information session will provide opportunities to:

• Familiarize yourself with regulations applicable to the City of Victoria, such as how to obtain a business license or operate a food stand.

• Connect with organizations that offer services that support small and start-up businesses.

• Hear from Victoria’s urban farmers about their operations and goals for the future.

• Hear stories and lessons from the next generation of urban farmers!

This event will offer an overview of the City of Victoria's urban growing and licence resources presented by the Food Systems Coordinator and Business Hub Ambassador. Helpful information from VanCity's Small Growers Fund and Futurepreneur regarding ways to support start-up businesses will also be explored.

Top Soil, an innovative urban agriculture business operating at Dockside Green, will share their business' story, the ways they give back to the community and their goals for the future.

Youth participants from Seed the City, a program for high school students to gain work experience in urban farming and gardening, will showcase how urban farming has given them opportunities to explore career pathways in horticulture and become part of the local food movement in their city. This innovative project is a partnership between LifeCycles Project Society, TOPSOIL Innovative Urban Agriculture, and the Greater Victoria School District.

The presentations will be followed by a brief Q&A session, networking and snacks!

There is no charge for this event session. Registration is required. Snacks will be provided.
