Overview

The World Trade Centre Toronto (WTC-T), in partnership with the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service (TCS), is organizing a hybrid Smart Cities Mission this November 2021. We aim to support Canadian companies in building and refining their market export strategy and business development expansion in Europe.

The trade mission is offered in a hybrid model, meaning that there are options for companies to join us from home or fly with us to Barcelona.

From November 8th to 10th, all delegates in the mission will participate in a series of virtual webinars from best-in-class subject matter experts to provide insights and help Canadian companies to understand expansion strategies in 5+ markets throughout Europe.

The in-person experience will include participation in the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) through the Canadian pavilion as well as personalized B2B programming with Spanish entities, site visits, and networking opportunities with international attendees.

The virtual mission offers the option of joining the online platform of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) in Barcelona and the personalized virtual B2B programming with Spanish organizations from November 22nd to 26th.

Smart City Expo World Congress 2021 (https://www.smartcityexpo.com/)

SCEWC is the leading smart cities event in Europe. It brings together global, national, and regional urban representatives, thought leaders, academic institutions, research centers, incubators, entrepreneurs, investors, and top corporations that have the kind of decision-making power that drives smart cities. It’s a hotspot for cities, institutions, and enterprises to share knowledge and get inspired, as well as the best marketplace to network and do business. As a major conference, it presents an interesting number of side events. Mention some of the side events here?

Eligibility Guidelines for companies:

• Trade-ready Canadian companies within the Smart Cities sector and with a clear business development strategy, interested in selling their products and services to Europe

• Sector-specific service providers, regulators, and industry associations interested in learning more about the opportunities for Canadian businesses in Europe

Why are we going?

• In 2050, two-thirds of the world population will live in urban areas, consuming over 70% of energy and emitting just as much greenhouse gases. COVID-19 has changed how we live, work, and move about in our cities, and some of those changes are here to stay even in a post-pandemic world. The broad theme in the mission will be how to build healthy and sustainable cities.

• European municipalities have become leaders in innovation and disruptive technologies developing strategies to implement smart solutions in Mobility, Energy Efficiency, Smart Government, and infrastructure, among others.

• The Smart City Expo World Congress—the world’s leading event for cities—will attract the latest Smart Cities technologies, solutions, and innovation to connect with potential customers. Some Cities and countries confirmed include Brussels, Barcelona, Berlin, Switzerland, Austria, Portugal, and the United States. Within the private sector, large corporations have as well confirmed their participation, names such as AWS, Cisco, Microsoft, FCC, and SEAT will be at the conference.
