Description

We need your big ideas on how to use technology, data and innovation to make Mississauga even better. Join fellow residents at this special public engagement session to help us develop a Smart City Master Plan and our Smart Cities Challenge submission.

Complimentary parking is available underground after 6 p.m. Enter off Duke of York Blvd.

To find C Banquets - From the main floor of the Civic Centre, take the Tower Elevators to the 12th Floor.

Participate in our Smart City Community and Industry Engagement Sessions and enter to win a Google Home Device.

Participants in the Smart City Community and Industry Engagement meetings taking place on February 15, 20, 21 and 22 and 26th will be asked to complete a short survey at the session and to provide ideas on how data, technology and innovation can make Mississauga even better. By completing the survey, participants can opt in for a chance to win Google Home device.

A Google Home device is a smart speaker powered by Google Assistant that lets you control smart devices and get information, all via voice commands.

If you wish to be entered in the Smart City Community and Industry Engagement Survey Draw at an engagement session, you must be 18 years of age or older and submit a completed Smart City Community and Industry Engagement Survey by 9:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) on the day of the session you have attended.

A total of six (6) prizes of a Google Home device will be awarded by random draw during the Smart City Community and Industry public consultation period of (February 15 – February 26, 2018). Only one (1) prize will be awarded per Smart City Community and Industry Engagement Meeting. Only one entry per person is permitted for the entirety of the Smart City Community and Industry public consultation period (February 15 – February 26, 2018). No purchase necessary. Google Home device valued at approximately One Hundred and Seventy-Nine dollars CDN ($179.00) plus H.S.T.

Odds of winning depend on the number of entries per each Smart City Community and Industry Engagement Meeting.

Background

The City of Mississauga is participating in the Government of Canada’s Smart Cities Challenge. The Challenge encourages communities to submit their ideas on how to improve the lives of residents through innovation, data and connected technology. The winning communities will receive up to $50 million in funding to implement their plans.

What is a Smart City?

Smart cities around the world are using data and technology to find new and innovative ways to improve their communities. These smart city ideas can provide solutions to:

  • advance transportation and ease traffic congestion
  • improve the environment
  • enhance access to services
  • ensure public safety
  • ease the effects of extreme weather
  • facilitate education
  • further access to social services and more.

Mississauga has already implemented many smart city initiatives including free public Wi-Fi, open data, hackathons, fibre network, Advanced Traffic Management, LED Lighting, mobile apps and more.
