Description

Presentation Summary

Transportation technology is constantly evolving – the newest transportation innovations from flying taxis to shared e-scooters are changing the way we think about transportation and the way we plan for mobility. This presentation explores today’s incredible leading edge projects – such as Tesla’s supercharger network, Alphabet Inc (Google’s) Sidewalk labs, Montreal’s signal connected SAV deployment, and Edmonton’s Connected Vehicle testbed – as well as the planning and implications of tomorrow’s transportation technologies.

Speaker

Rod Schebesch, M.Eng., P.Eng.

Rod Schebesch has spent his 27-year career enhancing mobility. He leads Stantec’s Smart Mobility Program specializing in the implementation of new transportation technology and in understanding how that technology will transform transportation networks worldwide. With a focus on building smarter cities, Rod is always striving to find greater infrastructure efficiencies that positively impact the built environment. His policy interests focus on the transformative potential connected and autonomous systems hold for improving safety, shrinking environmental impacts, and using existing infrastructure more efficiently. He has led projects involving connected vehicles, transit-rideshare technology, driverless shuttles, and smart city planning. For the past 6 years he has been serving as Stantec’s program manager for ACTIVE-AURORA, Canada’s largest connected-automated-vehicles test bed, leveraging the experience he’s gained to design and construct tomorrow’s intelligent transportation systems today.
