Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

I want to make worldwide music.

This dream has been many years in the making for Brampton, Ont. recording artist Flash Milla. His passion for music began at a young age. In Grade school, after hearing his friend recite a rap, Milla volunteered to write a song for the school Christmas concert – having never written one before.

Influenced by such greats as Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Cam’ron and Shyne, he’s never stopped writing since.

At only age 13, Milla had the opportunity, courtesy of his older cousin Jiggs, to lay down tracks in Toronto’s CMP Studios, well known in the early to mid 2000s for being home to some of the city’s most celebrated street lyricists.

Since then, he has had a versatile journey in music. He’s done everything from perform alongside Latin/Funk band Rebel Rhythm to working with respected Toronto producers PoPs On Da BeaT (Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne), Beat Merchant, Minty Burns, Smoke Shop and engineer Pro Logic.

These experiences have all shaped him for this moment: the release of his debut EP, Product of Toronto Streets, distributed by XXXXXXX. It’s a five-track project produced solely by creative visionary PMck, that takes the street life Milla’s both lived and witnessed since childhood and goes beyond the regular, everyday trap music.

“PMck has a more musical background than the average guys today,” says Milla. While the trap lifestyle may be his focus, he’s framing it in a way that will touch everyone. “It’s emotions, and everyone can relate to emotions.”

Moments of vulnerability, amid the banging beats, and catchy hooks, take listeners beyond the flashy lifestyle that inspired Milla’s stage name. Like on “Every Night” when he reflects: “All of these habits I need to get rid of, all of this liquor affecting my liver.”

After facing multiple setbacks – the types of betrayals and pitfalls all too common in street life – it took a month-long trip to Costa Rica for Milla to reconnect with his passion and re-focus his energy on the future. That raw confidence and determination from his secondary school days emerged once again. He’s not waiting on anything, or anyone. His time is now.

“I feel like waiting is what always messed me up; I always wanted everything to be perfect. Perfect is whatever you make it. You define what is perfect. I had to learn that the hard way.”
