During the William F. White 16th annual February Freeze SMPTE Toronto Section will gather industry specialists for a presentation on camera support and stabilization technologies. There are many creative means of supporting and stabilizing your camera today. These presentations will hopefully expose you to some ways that this is done in a Production Set environment.

Speakers for the evening will be:

Mike Darby is White’s Senior Remote Head/Aerial Technician. Mike will give an overview to the Dactyl Camera technology. Dactylcam is a premium camera cable system carrying loads up to 50lbs over 40 mph. Designed to give cinematographers a tool that creates a unique perspective.

Jerry Andrews, Lead Bolt Technician, will speak to Bolt technology. The Bolt high-speed Cinebot is used for precision camera moves at ultra-high speeds. With the Bolt arm, the camera can literally follow falling objects and capture images that would be impossible by any other method.

Alan Lenox and Francois Gauthier, Arri, Camera Stabilization Systems. Francois and Alan will talk about the prevalence of stabilization systems for use in mobile camera platforms (Steadicams / Gimbals / Drones). Camera stabilization is becoming the norm for these high mobility applications; however the sheer size of the professional lenses used today is a challenge. The Arri Maxima System and Master Grip remote controls will be used as example of stabilization ecosystems for full-size acquisition products.

The February Freeze is a venue that brings together production professionals to show the very latest innovations and technologies

The SMPTE Board of Managers will meet – Camera Department boardroom - 5:00 PM

Finger food & drinks will be part of the William F. White February Freeze event. February Freeze event starts at 12:00pm. SMPTE registration gives you access to the Freeze event.
