Event description

Description

'So You Want to Be an Ally' is a series of workshops seeking to meaningfully center allyship and anti-racism work in our progressive movements and communities.

In our third workshop, "Cultural and Language Appropriation" we will be addressing how white folks take and profit off of cultural elements from marginalized groups, without knowing how their actions affect marginalized people. We'll also be discussing how this doesn't only deal with clothing and physical aspects of expressions of culture, but how it extends to everyday language and speech.

*Disclaimer: This event is being run by Black folks and will be facilitated by White folks for reasons of safety and emotional labour. The workshop directors will be present for questions, if required.

*This event is being held on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin territory. Meaning that this land is Indigenous land and it will be respected as such. We invite everyone involved in this evening to take a look at what that means to them and their intersecting identities, and further their understanding of how colonialism affects all of us.*
