Frequently Asked Questions
If your questions aren't covered below or on the SIA Programs Page, please submit additional questions through this Google Form. We will incorporate your questions or directly respond to them during the info session.
Q: What’s the difference the Social Innovation Fellowship and the SVF Associate Program?
A: Social Innovation Fellows support impact organizations through bite-sized consulting projects, completed in teams over eight weeks. These projects vary in scope, including market & design research, strategy, and financial modelling. Fellows will complete two project cycles over the course of the program.
SVF Associates invest capital into impact organizations in their local communities of Calgary, Kingston, London, Montreal, and Vancouver. With support from the National Social Value Fund, Associates evaluate investment opportunities and partake in real impact investment decisions alongside experts.
Q: How is this programming conducted?
A: All training, programming, projects, and meetings are conducted online. Most live workshops are hosted during work hours (9-5 local time) to accommodate speakers' schedules.
Q: Is there a program fee?
A: No. Fellows and Associates have access to all training modules, workshops, and programming at no cost.
Q: What is the required time commitment?
A: Fellows and Associates commit 10 hours/week during the academic year. SVF Associates will also be undergoing 5 hours/week of training through Spring Impact's National Impact Investor Challenge during Summer 2021.
Q: Who is eligible to apply?
A: Overall, we are seeking youth with diverse experiences and knowledge, across arts & sciences, design, sustainability, business, engineering, etc.
The Social Innovation Fellowship is open to youth between the ages of 18-30, studying, working, living anywhere in Canada. You do not have to be a student to be part of the Fellowship Program.
The Social Value Fund Associate Program is open to youth with 2+ years remaining in an undergraduate degree, studying at a post-secondary institution in Calgary, Kingston, London, Montreal, and Vancouver.
Q: Can I apply to both the Social Innovation Fellowship and the SVF Associate Program?
A: We welcome you to apply to both programs if you are interested in both. Given the 10 hour/week time commitment, applicants who are offered positions as a Fellow and Associate will need to choose one.
