Description

Social media offers a means to level the playing field between society's big brands and everyone else. In this interactive workshop, you will learn social media basics with a lot of practical tips and tricks as well as strategies to advancing a social or environmental cause you care about.

The #SocMed101 workshop will be presented by:

Sarah Lesniewski, a former digital comms lead in the UK Prime Minister’s Office and social media strategist with experience in grassroots organizing, government, & business; and

Sylvanna Francis-Rae, a fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs and community organizer combatting climate change.

This workshop is being offered as a "SELECTIVE" in the SELECT Climate Leaders Program, a project of Enviromentum and the School for Social Entrepreneurs.

About Your Facilitators

Sarah Lesniewski

Driven by a passion for innovation and change, Sarah Lesniewski is a leader in strategic communications and digital campaigns. A lawyer turned communications strategist, her professional career has spanned from Canada to the UK, and back again, working across multiple platforms and sectors – from the grassroots of community organisations to the heart of central government.

In the UK for over eight years, Sarah worked with the Prime Minister's Office (10 Downing Street) to lead the digital communications for the NATO Summit Wales 2014, and with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office to develop and manage digital campaigns for the Middle East and North Africa regions, focusing on Syria and Iran.

Now back in Toronto, she was most recently the Digital Communications Manager at RSA Canada, but is currently tackling the challenges of being a new mom.

Sylvanna Rae

A two-time fellow of the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) Ontario, Sylvanna is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a bachelors in Public Administration. She is currently a Benefits Officer for the Government of Canada. Sylvanna has pursued her passion for social media and marketing through her work at Peacebuilders Canada and as a community organizer in the SELECT Climate Leaders Program at SSE.
