Event description

Description

Facilitated by Tracy Zufelt, B.A. & Kelly Gagen, CYW.

In this workshop, we will focus on de-escalation skills and self-regulation of emotions for the 6-12 age group. This workshop will help you better understand and intervene with the challenging child – the one who has tantrums and/or meltdowns, who has difficulty waiting their turn, who is not able to express the way they are feeling. This is the child who is caring, intelligent, and kind. Unexpected behaviours do not define this child.

Through discussion and hands-on activities, you will begin to understand the three critical neurological components – sensory processing, executive functioning, and emotional regulation – and how they need to be integrated to successfully self-regulate and de-escalate. You will learn strategies to help a child become successful in regulating their emotions.
