The Workshop: There are more than 27,000 non-profit societies in BC, providing services and programs that touch virtually every citizen. The BC Society Act, which provides the rules for governance and incorporation of non-profits, officially proclaimed important changes on November 28, 2016. There will be a two year transition period by which time all societies in BC will have to make the switch to the new Act.

All organizations that are incorporated under the current Society Act must plan to complete their “transition application,” with revised constitution and bylaws, by the time of their 2017 AGM. This workshop will provide the information on the bylaw and policy changes necessary for your organization to effectively make the transition by the deadline of November 28, 2018.

Please Note: Due to funding from the Columbia Basin Trust, this event is FREE to non-profit organizations within the West Kootenay/Columbia Basin area.

The Facilitator: Carol Palladino

Current Chair of the Revelstoke Arts Council (www.revelstokeartscouncil.com), Carol began her volunteer career in the arts in 1996 starting with re-incorporating and energizing the local arts council which now has 2 part time staff and presents a performance series, a summer street festival (65 nights of free music in Revelstoke’s Grizzly Plaza) and manages the Revelstoke Performing Arts Centre. She is also current Chair of the West Kootenay Regional Arts Council (WKRAC) serving Arts Councils with organizational capacity issues, professional development for artists in the region, publishing Articulate Magazine as well the Kootenay Festivals brochure. WKRAC administers the cultural funding programs for the Columbia Basin Trust through the CKCA – Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance. Carol spent 8 years as a member of the CKCA in its early days as it was developing the funding delivery model that seems to have stood the test of time.
