Description

This workshop is for students and early-career geoscientists who want to learn the theory and gain practical experience in soil sampling for mineral exploration. The workshop is being taught by David M. Leng, P.Geo., President and CEO of RGCI.


Schedule

  • Friday, Oct 19 - arrive to Sudbury by 2 pm. Introductory lectures.
  • Sat, Oct 20 - Field day for practical exercise.
  • Sun, Oct 21 - Review and debrief. Depart by noon.

Modules

  1. Introduction to surficial geochemistry
  2. Theory: Starting with a budget
  3. Theory: Sampling protocols and QA-QC
  4. Theory: Survey design, method selection and overview of analytical methods
  5. Theory: Approaches to interpretation
  6. Practical: Sample collection
  7. Practical: Role of the QP







Accommodations will be provided for workshop participants, courtesy of Orix Geoscience. Sample analysis is being provided by Actlabs, and a follow up session will be held in Toronto upon receipt of the data, for the group to get practice in interpretation.

Transportation and meals are your own responsibility. We will have some communal meals and will help coordinate carpools. If you are concerned about finding a ride please contact us through email before you purchase your ticket. We estimate that the cost of transportation and meals for someone carpooling from Toronto would be under $100.


Instructor Bio

David is a professional geologist with 20 years of mining industry experience who founded RGCI in September 2014. Prior to RGCI, David held technical roles involving geochemical exploration, project evaluation and corporate development with several reporting issuers. David’s professional expertise includes geochemistry, QA-QC and project management gained from his work experience with gold, platinum group metal and uranium projects. Within the last few years, David’s career had moved into the financial sector where he was an associate mining analyst at a boutique investment firm. His research focus was gold deposits throughout West Africa. David holds an honours degree in Geology from McMaster University, is a professional geologist with the Association of Professional Geoscientists, is a member of APGO Council and is also a member of the Association of Applied Geochemists.
