Soils Workshop/Field Training with Agrologist Bill Chapman

Fields Forward is excited to welcome Bill Chapman back to our region.
Bill is an agrologist with the Ministry of Forest, Land and Natural Resource Operations. Currently based in
Williams Lake, Bill has a farm near Castlegar that allows him to visit the Kootenays regularly.
He has worked with producers throughout the Kootenays offering experience and
technical support on how to improve crop production by creating healthy soil conditions.
The workshop will travel through Creston & District to experience different soils and crop production environments, this workshop will go to Herbada Farm - a commercial dairy farm on the Creston Flats, Cartwheel Farm - an organic market vegetable farm in Erickson, Twisted Roots - a four season community greenhouse in Crawford Bay, Yasodhara Ashram - an organic market garden and Kootenay Honey Berry Farm - an emerging buckwheat, blueberry and honey farm.
The 2-days will focus on practical learning and skill building:
Building soil health for optimum crop health
How to sample your soils properly
Learning how to read your topography
Manure/composting management, positives and negatives
Learning about full cycle nutrient management
Here is the plan for the 2 days:
Day one - Saturday April 22
9 - 11:30am - Herbada Farms (1370 Speers Road - map link)
12pm - 1pm - bring your own lunch or join the reservation at Retro Cafe: panini, sandwiches, crepes $8-10 (notice required)
1:30 - 4:00pm - Cartwheel Farm (734 35th Avenue North - map link)
Day two - Sunday April 23
9:30 - 10:30am - Twisted Roots Greenhouse (behind the Crawford Bay RV Park map link)
11:00 - 12:00pm - Honey Berry Farm - address coming
12:30 - 1:15 - bring your own lunch or join for a meal at Yasodhara Ashram: $13/buffet lunch (notice required)
1:30 - 2:30 - Yasodhara Ashram (527 Walkers Landing Road map link)
