Event Details

In person outreach and engaging the public in a 'one on one' or public speaking fashion can easily feel overwhelming, even for the most extroverted of us. So how can you ease the stress, anxiety, and initial barriers to actually getting people to talk to you? Come learn some tips, tricks, and best practices to getting cold glances to melt and strangers to hear you out.

In this workshop we will be covering some of the basic and most common scenarios and how to best navigate each one. For example, fliering on street corners or in university halls, tabling at events, and speaking to a crowd during a public event or action. Each section will be broken down into an hour each and will incorporate participatory activities.

Date: Wednesday Jan 31
Time: 6:30-9:30pm
Location: University of Toronto (Exact location TBC)
Accessibility: We will gather in a barrier free space. Subway tokens available to attendees by request. Please write to Laura@Toolsforchange.net if you have specific requirements.

Trainer ~
Leah Henderson (she/her) ~ Around her family dinner table was where Leah Henderson began to develop her political analysis- through lively debate, and the insistence in the necessity to get involved in your community. Leah is an anarchist and “queer femme force of nature” that is passionate about the destruction of capitalism and colonialism. She is a consultant for organizational strategic plans and restructuring of power and roles, an educator in anti oppression, facilitation, and creative resistance, and a facilitator of all-things-meetings! Through her work at The Leap, Leah hopes to build community funded community power!  You’ll find her on the barricades, in meetings, swinging on swings with her niblings, pouring tea for friends with heat-ache in her role as a community matchmaker and dating coach, and doing solidarity work with Indigenous Land Defence efforts. Leah is a white settler living on the stolen unceded territory of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Peoples.
